The United Russian-American Association is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing, expanding and promoting Russian cultural awareness for the enrichment of the Texas community.
Our mission is twofold: to broaden the cultural and social ties of the 70,000+ Russian speaking citizens of our community with the diverse community of the Greater Houston area while supporting activities and services which preserve and maintain our Slavic cultural heritage of our emigre community.
Our objectives are to promote Russian culture through art, education, cultural and philanthropic activities. It also includes active participation in local charities and events, which promote the common goal to live, work and raise our families together in Houston.
What We Do
Our organization was formally established in 2005, but we as individuals and small groups have worked hundreds of volunteer hours to the cause, which now unites us in URAA.
Our unique Puppet Theater KHOKHLOMA is an important part of our art activities. The puppet collection started in 2010, and the theatre was founded in 2012 by artist and doll maker Elena Suvorova Philips. The company performs colorful Russian folk tales and adapted classical play.
Our activities are to be funded solely through donations, grants and membership fees; Puppet Theater KHOKHLOMA, Balls and Disco nights, movie nights, special topic presentations, folk dance performances, discussion groups, festivals and art exhibitions are only some of these activities, which are planned to attract audiences from American, Russian and other communities represented in the greater Houston area. A partial list of our activities over the past few years include:

The Corporation may engage in any activities, which further its purposes.
On June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union causing the loss of 29 million Soviet lives and plunging the Soviet Union into war against the German invaders. On this Memorial Day, when we remember all those that gave their lives to defeat the evil that was spreading across the world, it is necessary to recall the events and remember those that gave it all to protect the world from that evil. For the diverse population of the great city of Houston, there are many veterans from many nations that fought to defend their countries, families and ways of life. The large Russian speaking community here in Houston would like to memorialize the Immortal Regiment of Allied and Soviet veterans that fought side by side to end World War II.
Please keep eye on the updates for upcoming events dedicated to the great date.
